Procession planned for Fallen Big Lake Police K9 this weekend

Members of the Big Lake community should be aware that the Big Lake Police Department will be holding a townwide procession on Saturday in remembrance of its late K9 officer, Bruno, who passed away last week.

The procession will take place on Saturday, October 22 at 10 a.m. and will move from the east side of Big Lake to the west side of town. The Big Lake Police Department route indicates the motorcade will begin on Highway 10 just east of 168th St NW. It will continue west on Highway 10 crossing County Road 43 to downtown Big Lake. The motorcade will then turn north on Lakeshore Drive/Hiawatha and around Big Lake. The procession will then head south on Eagle Lake Road via Glenwood where the procession will end at the intersection of Eagle Lake Road and Minnesota Ave.

The Big Lake Police Department advises anyone attending the procession to legally park and out of the way, maintain a safe distance from the procession, and be aware of their surroundings while the procession is in progress. .

Bruno suffered a medical emergency while off duty on October 12 and eventually died in part due to the emergency after receiving veterinary care.

In case you were wondering the letter and number associated with police dogs, K9, stands for nothing more than the “K” and the “9” simply echo the sounds found in the word “canine.”
